Rhytidectomy
Face Lift in Mexico / Rhytidectomy in Mexico
Aging Process/ Aging is not just about “excess skin”. As we age, many changes in our face and neck give us a “tired and sad” expression. Lifting the face will slow the aging process. In most cases, patients look and feel about ten years younger.
A facelift will not totally erase the signs of aging but it can repair a lot of the problems such as a saggy neck or jowls.
Every face has a unique shape and contour and each facelift procedure in Mexico is a bit different for each of our patients to address their particular type of aging. Prior to the procedure, your plastic surgeon will check the skin’s consistency and explain the procedure in detail. Smoking patients much refrain or cease from smoking for at least a couple of weeks prior to their facelift surgery because cigarette smoke can interfere with healing. We also request that our patient refrain from taking aspirin and aspirin products that can affect their coagulation times.

We prefer to perform our facelifts under general anesthesia for the patient’s comfort but this procedure may also be performed under sedation and local anesthesia in our surgeon’s office. This way patients are awake but unable to feel the procedure.
Surgeons make an incision the starts in the hairline from the temple and swerves by the earlobe during a traditional facelift that stops at the base of the hairline. It is also possible that the surgeon will make a tiny incision under the neck to address specifically tightening of the skin under the chin.
Now, the surgeon will separate the muscle and fat from the skin. The surgeon may also use a bit of liposuction under the chin to remove stubborn fat deposits and improve the final result. Below the skin is a layer of tissues called the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system). The surgeon will pull this layer back over itself to tighten it. This gives the jawline better definition and contours the neck.
The incisions are places in the hairline, hidden and the sutures are then closed. This procedure normally takes from 2 to 4 hours. The time of the procedure usually depends on the extent of muscle and tissue work that needs to be performed and by how many different procedures that are being performed.
The candidates who are best for the face lift are patients who are experiencing wrinkling and some sagging on the neck and face but they still have good elasticity. This procedure works for people in their 40s up to 80s.
We suggest that patients have their ideal body mass index (bmi) prior to surgery. This means that their weight is normal and that they are in good health. Patients with certain health conditions should check first with their primary physician prior to the consideration of a face lift.
Having a facelift is a quite common procedure but it does have its risks like any surgery. Prior to making an educated decision to have a facelift, you must look at the benefits vs risks. Although a facelift can turn back time and correct the issues of sagging skin and improve your overall appearance, it can also cause nerve damage, swelling, bruising and temporary pain.
To prepare for your facelift is a very good idea. Please remain relaxed and very healthy before during and after the procedure. This type of preparation begins when you begin your research for your surgeon and getting ready for your recovery means mentally preparing for the downtime and making the proper arrangements for after/care.
