Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck Procedure
The Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck Procedure is a major plastic surgery procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the upper, middle and lower abdomen. It also tightens the abdominal wall. This procedure is also able to reduce the appearance of a protruding stomach. It can give you a tighter, flatter stomach and remove or reduce the appearance of stretch marks on your lower abdomen.
The tummy tuck surgery is not a solution for weight control or a substitute for physical activity. Your results will be permanent as long as you maintain a healthy weight always. A tummy tuck should not be confused with a liposuction although your surgeon may elect to perform liposuction as part of a tummy tuck. People who have stretched muscles and stretched skin will benefit from this surgery. It is also an alternative for men and women who were obese at one point and still have excessive fat deposits or loose skin in their abdominal area.
With a complete abdominoplasty, your abdomen will be cut from hip to hip. The incision is made very low at about the same level as your public hair. Depending on the patient, the abdominoplasty will take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours.
The tummy tuck addresses the three components of your abdomen: the skin, fat and muscles. Most notable is the fact that work is done to tighten the abdominal muscles which benefit patients looking for a stomach as flat as possible. Results can be quite dramatic with combined with liposuction of the flanks to create a smaller, more sculpted waistline.
The abdominoplasty procedure can be done under general anesthesia or regional or twilight anesthesia. Patients discuss each type of anesthesia with their anesthesiologist prior to their procedure.
